The President that Never Was Lt. Mallam Abba Kyari by Mr. Wisdom Anucha Enyi.
The deceased Kyari, is undoubtedly one of the most successful men our country must have had and a true blueprint of what loyalty in service represents.
In all walks of life, Kyari has proved beyond reasonable doubts that his memory will not be forgotten in a short time.
Its on record that the Borno born sociologist who passed through the famous University of Warwick also had a Master degree from the all known University of Cambridge in 1984.
Doubling as a legal practioner and a banker of repute, he fast rose to the Executive Director, Management Services at the United Bank for Africa, from where he became the Chief Executive Officer of the said bank within the shortest possible time.
More so, having served as a Commissioner for forestry and Animal Resources, in 2002, he was unanimously appointed Director of Unilever Nigeria and later a board member of Exxon Mobil.
However, upon the emergence of President Buhari to pilot the affairs of Nigeria, the narrative changed for late Kyari. He is and remains one of the highest benafactors of the said Buhari led Administration. From 2015 till date, he enjoyed one of the most fantastic juicy positions such as the Chief of Staff to the President. Irrespective of the fact, that the said position is but a mere appointment, there’s no gainsaying the fact that he enjoyed and accorded himself much powers than the said “ELECTED POSITIONS”
Any one conversant with the antecedents of the Buhari Administration will not be mincing words if he calls Kyari an “Assistant President”. He had the ears of his said boss and grew beyond being a protege to being a big friend. When he sneezes, many in the opposing carbal of the “same carbal” will automatically catch cold.
For some it is his expertise, wit in Administration and unflinching loyalty to his boss that gained him such feat. A trait that is fast waning off in our days today. Nonetheless, Kyari, dead or alive can never be equated as an obscure fellow.
No doubt, it was already echoed in many quarters that he was the man to succeed his Principal come 2023. An ambition that has been dashed to the air. Be it as it may, God will always be God and knows the way each man must go. Regrettably, he fell asleep on account of the much treaded Covid-19.
However, as we mourn him, we can only pray that the Almighty helps us to number our days and apply wisdom to all our deeds.
